I exist from the mixture of a Chinese mum and an Iban father. I think in Bahasa Iban and my mother tounge is Bahasa Iban. I understand a little bit of Mandarin, just enough to survive my daily encounter with the tauke who always talk to me in mandarin. Both my parents are in the education sector. My sister is also in the education sector, must be in the blood thingy. My life is dull fun in this small town in Sarawak. I’ve been living in this small town for 20 years and it never get boring. Been a kampung boy (if you think so-lah) my knowledge of the outside is somewhat limited. I always asked whether the grass is greener on the other side. This question haunt me for years until God gave us the internet. Thanks to the internet I learn a lot. Since my town library is a disaster for science lover like me, I spent most of my time on the net to search for information that is why I decided to make myself a stupid blog.
Been an undergraduate make my life more fun. NOT!! Life is full of tension when I’m in my campus way up in Sabah below the wind. Taking Mechanical Engineering is a hell if you are not born genius. The tag “engineering” already making my life hard. Why I must study? I ever wonder if I study hard enough when I was young and stop diving into the mud hole I should be able to study medicine now.. *sigh*
I'm no longer an undergraduates. :) So the paragraph above is not relevant anymore.
This blog will record almost every major event happen to me in my hometown Sarikei and other places. It will include picture(s) and comments. I might as well review some food, eating joints, electronic products, video post is also a norm in Pejalai. So check daily or weekly. I must admit that this blog is greatly influenced by a Sarawakian blogger, Huai Bin of sixthseal.com. He is the main reason I started blogging. I think I was among the earliest blogger in Sarikei at that time, my blogging starts a chain reactions I guess. :p . But.. if you know sixthseal without any introduction, you can claim yourself as an old timer. :)
Some stuff from where I'm fromSarikei is situated about 375KM from Kuching, the capital of Sarawak and about 80km from Sibu. Most of the people in Sarikei is Iban, Chinese(majority is FooChow), Malay, Melanau and other races. In a small town like Sarikei, you get to know almost everyone. Not personally but you’ll know their face. It's more like you know which AhBeng rides the fastest SS Two or which Ahbeng drive the loudest Honda or which Abu own the fastest Kancil or which John Smith have the coolest hair. Somewhere in that region lah...
P/S: All name is the product of imaginations. None of them is real.
Sarikei is the center for Sarawak Pepper Production. Pepper is
the
booming business in Sarikei (This sentence might be correct 10 years
ago but since the overproduction of pepper kill the trade now). Most of
the Chinese and Iban here plan
pepper(lada) for their living. They do live a wealthy life planting
pepper, my uncle and aunty both from Chinese and Iban family plants
pepper.
Apart from pepper, Sarikei is well known for it’s Pineapple
(Nenas). Where do you get the best and fattest pineapple, well in
Sarikei you can find it. Pineapple is planted by the Malays and Melanau
on the Rejang river bank nutrien rich soil. Here in Sarikei we even
have a giant Pineapple beside the Rejang river.
Even though Sarikei is not a major tourist attraction in Sarawak. We’ll live with that. But for those who want adventure, well you can go and visit the Sebangkoi park. Do some jungle trekking and swim in the river, get bitten by mosquito.
For me, adventure is everywhere in Sarikei. You just need to know the right place and the right person to ask. Before you know it, you’ll have an unexpected adventure. Even at the back of my house is full of suprises.
