Just got the update from fred little sister. (oh my… I’m not that up to date)…. We already know the 12 student: Diddy, Lotter, Rich, Haziq, Faizal, Farhan, Karen, Velvet, Salima, Zila, Amirul and Nora. Where Amirul and Nora was relected by viewers SMS vote. I told you (or did I?) the cute guy must get in. Fred gonna complain about the rich celular provider to me again….

The question is… will it be 14(fourteen)??? Just like before.. AF is full of suprises… who know what will happen in the 1st concert… well I’m ready for the concert… but I don’t know whether I will watch it or not.. since Gawai is here and the alcohol is calling ;) . who care lah… I’m waiting for the next Mawi…

Some little cat told me that the constestants this year is BORING…. I know fred is supporting velvet and Karen but that bugger is not going to waste his credits to vote.. bugger…

I don’t expect I will get this nice shot until I uploaded it to my laptop. Even the Autolevel function in Photoshop didn’t do anything to it.. ;) ;)

Another triumph for my Point and shoot camera, The E5900.

Gawai is here… I decided to write some guides for you who decided to go visiting this Gawai Holiday… This is from my own experience lah.. especially for the non-Iban. Even some Chinese readers ask me to write about it.

I’ll make it in list:

1. One thing you should carry with you when you visit during Gawai is respect. You must never look down upon them. (of course we will not look down upon each other)

2. Concerning the tuak offered to you during your visits. Actually you can refuse it politely and give your reasoning e.g religion, sickness etc… and if all fail, then say you just had a major intestine operation and your stomach cannot accept such drinks ;) and ask a friend to back you up. It worked for me….

3. It is not necessary to bring any gift or buah tangan for your host but you can bring it if you want to.

4. For my Muslim readers, the Ibans will try their best to serve you Halal food if they know you are Muslim. Some urban Ibans will go further by ordering Halal food for their Muslim friends. (This apply to my area, Sarikei. Don’t know other area)

5. The Sarang Semut is not fried bihun ;) trust me… it is made from flour, ice-cream soda/ sprite, sugar, egg and water.. it is later fried over hot oil.

6. Leave your shoes outside and if you are visiting a crowded longhouse it will be a good idea if you leave your shoes inside you car because you will risked loosing your shoes. But you need to walk barefooted lah… ;)

7. When you are served food, don’t hesitate… just have a great feast ;)

8. Drinking until you are drunk is stil acceptable ;) . That is not a good thing though…

Hope that help…

[There Will Be no update for my trip to Mukah day 2 and 3 until Gawai Dayak (Harvest Festival) ends ]

Ok let’s talk about the trip here. The road into Mukah is in its worst state but still drivable. I advice you to use 4wd and please do not use your car with sport rims because the potholes is a killer. But the road near (30km) to Mukah is still new and great. You can easily reach 100km/h ;) .

palm tree
Along the way you will pass palm trees (kelapa sawit). Like any other Sarawak region. palm tree is among a boomin business here. I believe this one belong to the Jabatan Pertanian.

Kingwood
The Sambutan Hari Guru (2006) is held in Kingwood Resort, we (referring to my father) stop there to register for the event. Heck, everyone else is using long pants but I wear short pants and t-shirt. That hotel is still new, fresh from constructions I guess. I think there is nothing to do there. But wait, I need to check every inch of the resort first.

ME
A shot for myself… hehehe…

Sadly we are staying in Kaul Beach Resort not that glamorous Kingwood. Oh.. regarding Kaul Beach Resort the pricing for the room is RM71 (approx US$ 19) for a double bed room and the max price will not exceed RM90. It’s located like approximately 4km from Mukah town. Not that far if you have your own transportation. Service is good and acceptable, don’t you expect a first class service here ;) . later I will add some video of the room.

The Chalet

In the chalet, which is very old and seem to be in a bad condition, not that bad-lah. See the video for the interior. Like I just said it’s acceptable for a living quarters. If you want to feel Lonely Planet style you can stay here but if you want to be pampered go to the Kingwood and basically you shouldn’t come here.

Oh.. they have WiFi so you can read your mail or update your blog. Its available 24 hour, I believe. Best of all it’s free if you stay there. It’s not a secure connection.

Later in the evening we decided to check out the road leading to Oya, we pass by the Politeknik Mukah (more on that later). The road is still upgraded, like 60% of the road is already finished.

And we check out the Batang Oya Bridge. I encounter far too many new bridge this holiday. ;)

Ulu Oya town.
Later on we check out the sunset… nothing to say much…

Me again

Later on we have our dinner at the Richview Inn which is located along the way to Poiliteknik. The served the some of the local food, seafood and they make their own seafood bean curd. Quite nice….

Ok that is all… I have uploaded some photos into my gallery and I’m still in the process.

[Note: This post will be updated later on so come again]

yes… that mean more picture and rantings. The state teacher’s day for Sarawak is held in Mukah this year (2006) and guess what? I’m in, (but you are not a teacher) heck I’m the kepoh2 guy… I will bring along my suit and my long sleeve T-shirt ;) . Let see if I manage to sneek into the Majlis….

I will write about Mukah there… if I manage to get Internet connection there. if not be ready for my backlog on 28th.

and incase you didn’t noticed it yet. I have added a new link on the Sidebar just below ABOUT ME. It’s the Photo Gallery. Here you will see more picture (with Tags). more fun to read I guess…

ok see ya!
