EEeee!!!! Worms… This is sago worm or genus of Rhinchophorus beetle. And It is not a worm. It’s a grub. This Rhinchophorus beetle will lay their eggs inside the rotten Sago tree( Metroxylon sagu or Metroxylon rumphii ) . Their young one is the cute little thing above. Eee….

Closer view.

Where they grow up and eat.

Then

After a period of time they will make their cocoon from the fiber of the Sago tree. The cocoon is tight. You can hear the grub doing their stuff inside, the sound is like ‘grek..grek..grek..’ Maybe it’s saying “ I’m going to be a beautiful beetle”.

The processes of extracting the grubs.

You’ll need this machine to make the process faster. It’s a chainsaw. I am the one that doing all the chainsawing(bad English).

After you cut open the Sago tree trunk. Use your hand to search through the soft pith that is already rotten and eaten by the grubs. A sharp machete is helpful here. That is my grandpa doing the work.

“You keep snapping and I will put this grub in your mouth”

“Kill you freaking grubs”

” 1, 2, 3, 4.. hey Gerald stop eating the grub raw. I want also”

I’ve never sweat like this before. Handling the chainsaw is making me sweat a lot. I think that is the result when you never do any exercise.

Cooking it. Clean them first. Then fried it, bake it, BBQ it, soup it. The best choice is to fried or BBQ it.

Did I eat it?

Diesel crisis is the latest event to strike all over Sarawak. Kudos to our Minister in the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affair for giving us such an event to tackle. Since there is no deadly virus, no cocksackie, no more J.E lying around. So why not we create an event so we can have the news coverage and cheap publicity. What a good idea Ministers.

Everywhere you would see cars, truck, Lorries, 4wd and van waiting in queue just to fill their tanks. People are wasting their time just to fill their vehicles. The quota for diesel is down 1/3 from before in Sarawak. Surprisingly Sarawak is one of the sources of oil in Malaysia and we still suffer from shortage while the other state is not facing the same problem. Why must we suffer, we help to form Malaysia before (yes we help to form Malaysia, not Tanah Melayu help Sarawak. Read the real history of Malaysia for more) and still we a let to suffer from lack of development since our take from the 9th Malaysian Plan is so low for a big state. And now we suffer another problem.

They say diesel trafficking is high in Sarawak, why before they never enforce such a plan to battle it. Why couldn’t they try another strategy? The latest idea from the Minister is so childish, do you think so? Well it depend how you think. I will not state anything here.

The crisis will affect other industry eventually. The longhouse, the rural schools, rural clinics this entire establishment is using diesel powered generator. Without diesel, student will study in the dark using only candle for lighting. Patient will suffer from lack of equipment because there is no electricity from the generator. Imagine this, a very sick person is needed to be sent to the hospital which is a 3 hour boat ride and you don’t have any diesel. What a coincidences.

Waiting in line just to buy diesel is so much fun. You get to know the queue jumper, the bullies, you can even get to know your Gas Station really close since you are going to spend a lot of time in line, ohh.. and maybe you can injured yourself from a fight with the queue jumper. Maybe next time you go out fill your tank bring along your family and have a picnic beside the Gas Station. Sure you will enjoy the sight.

Until when will this crisis last? Some people even ask the Minister to step down. HAhahahahahaha… go down boy. They say he cannot handle the crisis in a very good manner. Maybe he just doesn’t know what to do. Well I cannot say much about this. Just let the politician handle this, I’m just an observer.

What ever happen to our beloved state, we still stand together: Chinese, Iban, Sarawak Malay, Melanau, Bidayuh, Kayan, Kenyah and other tribes. We shall prevail this crisis like before. Long Live Sarawak!!!

Cheers.

The Journey

We left Sarikei around 8am, 19 April (yesterday). We took our lunch in a small town call Lachau (in Chinese that mean something about men’s apparatus). Sorry no picture available for Lachau. You should know Lachau when you travel from Kuching to Sarikei or vice versa because it’s a common stop over. I started driving from Lachau.

Me and my cousin. Naughty Little Brats.

Thank God the road to Kuching is a bit ok now. Last time there is pot holes every where. We reached Kuching around 2pm. Yeahhh…. so tired. I drove from Lachau to Kuching to Matang Baru (yeah!!)

I take a little nap, but my cousins is freaking noisy. Children is supernaturally hyperactive. I have an appointment with my friends in Wisma Saberkas(WS). I borrowed my aunt’s car. I drove to Wisma Saberkas from Matang Baru (Once again, it’s my first time driving alone in Kuching, yeah!!). Reached WS around 4pm. My slipper putus argh….buy a new one in Bata, just inside WS.

My Kuching’s Cousins. Naughty-naughty… Going to school. In the background is my uncle.

The Friends

The first person I met is Olivia, she is a Sabahan residing here. Her friends come along to meet me. We talk about our memories in Kolej Matrikulasi Labuan (KML). Since two of my friends isn’t coming after before 7 pm, we decided to have a drink. This where I tasted the sweetest Iced Red Kacang. Not even finished mine.

7pm, our beloved Karen arrived, followed by Rashid. Everyone changed, not seen them for a year. We talk and talk……..

Decided to go eat dinner. We went to Sarawak Plaza, eat chicken rice. Not a very tasty one. So wonderful, meeting everyone. Thank You guys and girl for meeting me on a short notice.

NOTES: All pictures is compressed. So blur a bit

Me and Oli in front of the cat statue. Meow……. Meow…..

Me and Karen inside her house. Taking a leak in her house toilet. Nice house Karen.

A shot of caffeine before I drove from Kuching straight to Sarikei. Nonstop… freaking tired.

Arive in Sarikei 4pm today.

What is a bamboo shoot?

This is a bamboo shoot.

Take it when it’s about that age. Cut it down.

The bamboo shoot after you kill it.

Peel of the outer layer. That brown thing is so sharp. Tiny2 needle that can penetrate your skin, so itchy.

Chop. That is my aunty doing the peeling.

Now the skin is peeled. Now you can safely touch that thing.

Yummy. How to cook? wait for my mum to demo.

The Nikon E5900

Collect some money then support by mum and dad. Finally I bought this camera. It’s a Nikon Coolpix E5900. 5.1 megapixel CCD. With tons of preset-settings. 3x optical zoom. Very big TFT LCD, lithium ion battery(Dont really like it, prefer normal rechargeable AA bat).Tripod as a gift.

Money taken :(

How much does it cost? Well RM1550. I think RM 50 is the tripod price. Is it a bargain or not?? Well for a camera in it’s class, the E5900 is among the cheapest. My fren Koh recommended it to me. I’m a fan of Sony Cybershot, but the Sony is just to exspensive. So Nikon is the next choice.

I will review the E5900 after i use it for a week. Wait and see..
From now own, watch out.
