Mora Viking 511 Knive - Carbon Steel

oh no! not another Mora knife review on the net… well yes it is, but wont be talking all those geeky knife talk.

A few weeks back, I put an order of this popular knife. It has quite a good value for money compare to other fixed blade knife. It cost me only MYR65. and those hardcore knife enthusiast will jump up and say “That knife is not reliable and can break when your life depend on it!!!” Yes this knife is not a full tang fixed knife but I have my big “duku Ilang” just in case. Just like this quote I lazily copy-and-paste from somewhere.

Mora knife – sharp, durable utility knife. Used by professionals within the construction and industrial sectors for a number of different tasks. These knives are also great budget bushcraft knives, used on many courses throughout the world. The edge is still exceptional! The blade also has a ruler on for craft tasks, ideal for forest schools.

Orait, lets go back to original contents.

The Mora Viking 511 is made from a carbon steel and it does come with stainless steel blade with a slightly higher price tag. Personally I like carbon steel blades. But carbon steel rust magnet if not properly maintained (maybe one of the reasons I like it, maintenance freak). What I do to avoid unnecessary rust is to wipe the blade dry before sheathing it and wipe it with cooking oil now and then.

Sharpness out of the box is quite good but not razor sharp. Make it simple, it can slice through paper easily but it can’t shaved of some hair. But put it against wood, slice through like butter. In short, for normal user like me, its sharp enough.

On the plastic handle, a finger guard kept your clumsy fingers from slipping to the blade, now imagine that happen……

Another point to note is that the belt loop is not like those in Mora Clipper where you can just clip it. For Mora Viking, you need to slip your belt through the loop, unbuckling your belt in front of everyone to put on this knife. Might be a little bit troublesome yeah….

Let me put it to work more. I’ll write another review if it fail me.

Compact Calendar 2010 - Malaysia Edition

Everybody..

The Compact Calendar for 2010 is here.
Compact Calendar Malaysia 2010

A Malaysia version of the famous Compact Calendar from David Seah.

During my uni life, I have re-edit the Compact Calendar to suit Malaysia holidays and school holidays.
Compact Calendar 2008 - Malaysia Edition

Then later for 2009, due to good response from general public, Malaysia of course… I continue with the 2009 version
Compact Calendar 2009 - Malaysia Edition

and now… for next year 2010.

Compact Calendar 2010 Malaysian Edition - Public Holiday Edition (PDF)

Compact Calendar 2010 Malaysian Edition - Public Holiday Edition + School Holidays (PDF)

Compact Calendar 2010 Malaysian Edition (.xls) * Both version included.

Credit goes to David Seah - creator of the original Compact Calendar.

The public holiday should be correct..

Reminder
Since we have our different state in Malaysia, some of the holiday may not apply to all people. For better flexibility I would suggest you to download the Excel version (xls) and key in the holiday inside the Holiday Lookup Table. Use this format dd/mm/yyyy followed by the holiday name on the other column. You will know once you open the xls file.

Suggested usage
Demo
You circle the selected date and draw a line to connect it to specific activity you want to do on that date. It works for me during my university life and being stucked in front of my table it always remind me on my assignments deadline. ;)

If you find this Malaysia edition compact calendar is useful to you, leave a comment below. It give me the feel good feeling :p .

Cheers..

Landsickness

A continuity of my inane rambling. At the moment I can only fix my head to one position. I’m having a serious case of seasickness on land (or vertigo for you correct term users). You can see the ceiling spinning around and around and around until you want to vomit. Cool eh…

oops
